In other tournament news ...

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Along with the Bovitzes' successful testing at the Sioux Falls Regional Tournament earlier this month, we had other students who competed.  One of our Orange Belt students was at her first regional tournament, and she earned two first-place medals!  Her sister, who has been to a couple of regional tournaments already, won three first-place medals!  (There was much happiness in the house that evening.)  Another student earned third place for his form in a ring of 13 competitors.  And the Bovitzes did well, too, on Friday night after they tested.

We're so proud of all our competing students!  We'd love to have even more of our students compete at the Sioux City Regional Tournament in January.

They did their best ...

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

... and our academy has three new third-degree Black Belts!

The Bovitz family passed their rank test at the Sioux Falls Regional Tournament last Friday.  They showed off their "stuff" by performing their tradtiional form, showing excellent sparring skills, and breaking all three of their boards!  Sure, they were nervous, but because they worked hard during the past two years (and more so in the last few months), they were fairly confident.  For at least one of them, it was the best that he had ever done his form, and it looked nearly flawless.  Credit should also go to the excellent teaching skills of Mr. Raberge and Ms. Kisch, too. (By the way, Mr. Raberge will test to advance to fifth degree black belt in July.)

If you see the Bovitzes at school or around town, be sure to congratulate them  This is a Big Deal, and they are all proud of their accomplishment.

Breaking boards with buddies was a blast!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Saturday was our first Board Breaking Buddy Bash.  We had a great group of students and their friends learning and showing off their board breaking skills.  Some of the kids showed some real potential!  We have to figure out what to do with all the scrap wood the kids created.

Color Belt Graduation: more success!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Tonight more than one hundred of our students graduated to new color belts.  We instructors were impressed with the quality and intensity of the students' performances.  We can only show our classes the way of the hand and foot and teach them life lessons, but it's up to each student to determine how much work to put into their training and how much to take to heart the lessons.  It looks like they're taking it very seriously, and we are so proud of them!  We can't wait to see how far everyone will have progressed in our November graduation.

Awesome competitors!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

We just finished up with our latest in-school tournament.  It was a another great one with lots of awesome competitors who showed courage, perseverance, integrity, and strength!  All of our first-time competitors today had fun, and as far as we can tell, they'll be at the next tournament.  It made the judges' jobs much easier and very enjoyable with all the Black Belt attitudes in the school today from the students and their parents.

So proud of our new Black Belts!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

We held our first in-school black belt testing last night (September 21). Eight of our students became first-degree (decided) Black Belts! For each of them, it was the culmination of more than two years of commitment, perseverance, integrity, and learning, going from freshly-minted White Belts to shiny new Black Belts. Along they way, not only did they learn martial arts, but we'd like to think they learned about themselves and became better people. Also last night, some of our current Black Belts midterm tested toward their next rank. Everyone's performance - form, sparring, board breaks - looked great last night, and the event went off without a hitch. It was a wonderful start to what we hope will be a new tradition at ATA Leadership Martial Arts!
