Spring into fun and safety at Raberge's ATA!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

We've got some fun things coming your way in the next few months.  Here is what we have planned so far:

  • Parents' Night Out on Saturday, March 16 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Cost: $20 for one child, $30 for a family.
  • Child Safety Seminar on Saturday, April 13 at 1:30 p.m.  Cost: FREE!
  • Ladies' Self-Defense Workshop, Saturday, May 11 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Cost: $49 per person and $89 for a pair and $40 for each additional person who comes with you.  Give yourself and your friends a useful Mother's Day gift.

Space is limited!  These events are always more fun and interesting for those who bring friends.

"I resolve..."

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

We mentioned in an earlier blog post that many of our students have made goals for themselves for 2013.  But why should we have all the fun?  What will you do to make yourself a better person in 2013?

Resolutions were discussed in a segment of the December 28, 2012, episode of National Public Radio's Talk of the Nation Science Friday ("Making Resolutions That Stick").  Some of the helpful items mentioned:

  • Your being realistic in your resolution and expectations will give you a greater chance of success.
  • Remember that these resolutions are lifestyle changes.  It's not as easy as one's switching brands of milk.
  • Seek social support. Make public your resolutions.  If people who care about you know about your struggle, they're more likely to help you.
  • Inspiration might get you started but won't keep you going.  Use what motivates you to get past the initial inspiration stage.
  • Keep it simple: Making one or two (related) resolutions increase your chances for success.
  • If you make a mistake, don't let it derail you.  Most people will slip up.  The successful resolver doesn't let it stop them.
  • It's a marathon, not a dash. If you keep moving toward your goal, you will reach it. If not this year, maybe you can have made great progress on it and reach your goal next year.  Even the runner who takes 8 hours to finish a marathon still finished the marathon.

We at ATA Leadership Martial Arts hope you have a happy and safe New Year's Eve!  We hope you do what you can to make your 2013 better than your 2012!

Merry Christmas!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

If you celebrate it, we at ATA Leadership Martial Arts hope you have a merry Christmas!

Remember, there are no regularly-scheduled classes until January 2, 2013.  Enjoy your time away from classes, but remember, a martial artist can always find time to keep up on their training.

Let's help

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Our academy is collecting for a couple of programs to help those who might not have as much as we do.  Although our economy is slowly recovering, many families still need help this time of year.

In the school are two boxes:

  • One box is a collection of food and other supplies for the Eagan/Lakeville Resource Center Please bring in nonperishable food and put it in the box.  We'll also accept cash.
  • In the other box are toys which will be given to the Toys for Tots Foundation.  If you wish to donate a toy, please bring it in its original packaging and without any wrapping around it.  Remember, older kids need toys, too.

Please bring in a donation for one or both of these drives.  It could make the difference in someone's life.

C'mon, ring those bells!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Tomorrow (Saturday, December 1), our Demo Team will be at the Rainbow Foods store at 17756 Kenwood Trail in Lakeville from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. We will be ringing bells at the Salvation Army kettle there as part of our helping the community.  Come on down to say "hi!" and to help out those less fortunate than you.

Happy Thanksgiving!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

We wish all our students, their families, and everyone who's a fan of our academy a happy Thanksgiving holiday.  Let us remember and show thanks and gratitude to those who mean so much to us.

FREE Child Safety Seminar

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

We will have a free child safety seminar during our Holiday Sale on Saturday, November 17, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  We'll show kids some basic self defense and how not to get into some dangerous situations and what to do if they are.  If you come early, you'll get to see the inside of a police car thanks to the Lakeville police department.

Please let us know you're coming to this free safety class so we can expect you!

It's Election Day in the U.S.  If you're eligible to vote, excecise your rights!  If you don't know where to vote or who's on your ballot (and live in Minnesota), visit the voter information page from the  Minnesota Secretary of State's website.  Turnout is expected to typically high, so you might want to prepare for a wait.  If you are in line before the polls close at 8:00 p.m., you will get to cast your ballot.

Halloween Happenings

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Raberge's ATA Leadership Martial Arts has some public events for Halloween:

Our Halloween party will be on Friday, October 26, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Come in costume, and let's pack the place!  We'll have treats and a quick and fun taekwondo class.

If you're going to be in dowtown Lakeville between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, stop by for some treats!  The only trick we have for you is to watch you break a real wood board!

We hope to see you at these events!
