Our house is open!

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

To celebrate our martial arts school's being a part of the Lakeville and Farmington communities for the past 12 years, we will have an Open House on Saturday, May 17!  Here's the schedule:

10:00 - Coffee and donuts
10:30 - Family and friends class: EVERYONE!
11:15 - Demo Team demonstration
11:30 - Lunch

Also, all pro shop items are 20% off.

Everyone, especially those who aren't students yet, are welcome to stop by and find out what it is about our academy that's been producing community-leading black belts for the past dozen years.  Come and talk with us to find out who we are, what we do, why we do it.

Yet another new graduation record

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

We have 165 of our taekwondo students registered for spring color belt graduation this week.  This is the most ever, and is the latest "most ever" since the school has opened.  (The previous record was last winter.)  Students of all grades, from white belts to red (decided) belts will be showing off what they've learned in the past three months to advance to the next belt.  They will be demonstrating their forms, use of weapons, board breaking, and self defense to move to the next level.

If you'd like to see us, we'll be in one of the gyms in Boeckman Middle School in Farmington.  (Enter from the north parking lot.)  The event starts at 6:00 p.m., but get there early for a good seat and stay to cheer on all our improving martial artists!

Cleanin' up the town

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Tomorrow, our martial-arts academy will be participating in the Lakeville Watershed Cleanup Day, also known as the City-Wide Cleanup Day.  We will be working on the busy path between Dodd Boulevard and downtown Lakeville.  We're looking forward to making this town we live and train in a cleaner and nicer place.

Twenty Two

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Twenty-two.

This is the number of our students who competed this weekend at the ATA Twin Cities Tournament.  As far as anyone can remember, this is the greatest number students competing at a regoinal tournament.  Everyone had a great time showing off their stuff and putting their skills and themselves on the line.  For some of us, there were some new experiences, such as our first regional tournament or first time doing a creative form.

We're looking forward to the next regional tournament!

Advancing Black Belts tonight

ATA Martial Arts & Kids Karate of Lakeville

Tonight was another successful event in our continuing series of black belt testings.  Nearly 20 students advanced or worked toward the nexts belt in their martial arts training.  There were three new black belts, and three students earned the next belts.

We were pleased to have as our special guest, Mr. Singewald, owner of Singewald's ATA Family Martial Arts.

We're so proud of all our testers!
